Tribunal finds dumping of concrete reinforcing bar from Oman and Russia injures Canadian industry
Provisional duties could soon apply to concrete reinforcing bar from Oman and Russia
After conducting a preliminary injury inquiry the Canadian International Trade Tribunal announced that it found a reasonable indication that the dumping of concrete reinforcing bar originating in or exported from the Sultanate of Oman and the Russian Federation has caused injury or retardation, or is threatening to cause injury, to the domestic industry.
On December 4, 2020 the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) initiated an investigation into the alleged injurious dumping of the goods in question following a complaint filed by Canadian manufacturers.
Now that the Tribunal ruled on the question of injury, the CBSA will investigate to confirm that the imports are indeed being dumped and will make a preliminary determination by March 4, 2021.
Provisional anti-dumping duties could soon be applicable to imports of the goods under investigation. In such a case the preliminary decisions of the Tribunal and the CBSA will have to be confirmed by final decisions.
