Dumping would resume if duties expired on on certain potatoes from the U.S., says CBSA

The trade tribunal will now determine whether the expiry would likely result in injury to Canadian industry

In July 2020, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal initiated an expiry review of its order concerning the dumping of certain whole potatoes imported from the United States for use or consumption in the province of British Columbia. The order, issued in September 2015, imposed anti-dumping duties on these goods.

Following the Tribunal’s May decision, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) initiated an expiry review investigation to determine whether the expiry of the finding is likely to result in the continuation or resumption of dumping of the subject goods.

The CBSA’s investigation has now been completed and the Agency has determined that the expiry of the order is likely to result in the continuation or resumption of dumping.

The Tribunal will now conduct an inquiry to determine whether the expiry of its finding is likely to result in injury to the Canadian industry and will issue its decision by June 2, 2021. Anti-dumping duties will continue to apply to the subject goods until that date.
