New rules from “Safe Food for Canadians Regulations” start on January 15, 2020
Certain requirements, like preventive controls or traceability, come into force in less than six month
The new Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR) came into force on January 15, 2019 and some requirements had to be met immediately.
Other requirements are being phased in over a period of 12-30 months based on food commodity, type of activity and business size.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) recently sent a message to remind the industry that some requirements under the SFCR such as preventive controls or traceability will come into force on January 15, 2020 for certain businesses.
For additional information see the CFIA’s website which lists the SFCR timelines per food, and then per activity and size of the food business.
The CFIA has also published a useful Toolkit for food businesses
