Canada posted a trade surplus of $1.4 billion in January
Merchandise exports increased 8.1 percent, while imports were up almost one percent
Due to the existence of circumstances that make it unusually difficult to make a preliminary determination regarding the alleged injurious dumping and subsidizing of certain grinding media from India within the normal ninety days, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced that it extended the 90-day period for making preliminary decisions, pertaining to all or part of the investigations, to 135 days.
The Canadian International Trade Tribunal determined in February that there is preliminary evidence that dumping and subsidizing of grinding media from India has caused injury or is threatening to cause injury to Canadian industry. Provisional anti-dumping and/or countervailing duties could be applied to the goods in question if CBSA confirms that they are the subject of dumping and/or subsidizing.
The decision by CBSA to issue its preliminary determination, or to terminate all or part of the investigation, will now be made on or before April 30, 2021.
